Grant Penrod’s practice focuses on helping clients navigate and resolve problems. He represents plaintiffs and defendants in civil litigation and appeals, with primary experience including domestic relations, consumer and commercial transactions, landlord and tenant relations, personal injury, real estate litigation, and First Amendment and media law.

Law Practice

:

Grant has been in private practice with Hoover Penrod PLC since 2008. Before joining the firm he was a Supervising and Staff Attorney with Blue Ridge Legal Services from 2005 to 2008 and a Legal Fellow with the Reporters Committee for Freedom of the Press from 2003 to 2005. He was also an adjunct professor with American University in 2005. While in law school he worked as a law clerk with the Thomas Jefferson Center for the Protection of Free Expression, the Virginia Coalition for Open Government, and the American Civil Liberties Union of Virginia.

Grant is an experienced trial attorney. He has been successful in several appellate cases before Virginia appellate courts and the U.S. Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals. He has been recognized in Virginia Business Magazine’s “Legal Elite” and as a Virginia “Super Lawyer”.

Member of the Virginia State BarHarrisonburg-Rockingham Bar Association (past President), and Virginia Trial Lawyers Association. Grant has served on the boards of directors for numerous charitable and nonprofit organizations, and he is currently on the Board of Directors of the Community Counseling Center (Vice President), the Board of Directors of Blue Ridge Legal Services, and the Committee that organizes the Mid-Atlantic College Radio Conference (MACRoCk).

:

Grant was in restaurant management for five years before attending law school. He is married to a successful business owner, and has three adult children (and one grandchild) after having been a single father for many years. He is an active musician and skateboarder (and has the surgical scars to prove it).
