Lawrence H. Hoover, Jr. has announced his retirement, ending a distinguished legal career that saw him earn a reputation as one of Virginia's finest attorneys.
While the attorneys at Hoover Penrod, PLC will miss Larry, we're happy that our friend will have the opportunity to pursue his passions and the leisure he has earned through decades of service.
During his career, Larry crafted an impressive and unique resume. A graduate of Hampton-Sydney College and the University of Virginia Law School, Larry served his country as a State Department legal officer in such far-flung locations as Switzerland and the Philippines.
Upon returning to the Harrisonburg area, Larry went into private practice with his father, Lawrence Hoover. Seeing the shortcomings of litigation, Larry became a widely-recognized pioneer in the field of mediation. Often referred to as "The Father of Mediation in Virginia," Larry was extraordinarily successful at achieving his clients' goals through skilled mediation work.
A full listing of all Larry's awards and accolades would be impossible to list, but he was honored with:
- The Lifetime Achievement Award from the Office of the Executive Secretary of the Virginia Supreme Court
- The Tradition of Excellence Award from the General Practice Section of the Virginia State Bar
- The Alternative Dispute Resolution Founder Award
- The opportunity to teach mediation and negotiation at Washington & Lee University School of Law, the University of Virginia School of Law and Bridgewater College
A long-time member of the Harrisonburg community, Larry has served on several local boards, including those of the American Shakespeare Center and Shenandoah Valley Public Television.
We wish Larry all the best in his future endeavors and honor him for his decades of his hard work.
