Grant Penrod represents plaintiffs and defendants in civil litigation and appeals, with primary experience in the areas of domestic relations, consumer and commercial transactions, landlord and tenant relations, and First Amendment and media law.

Education:  Harrisonburg High School (1991, honors); James Madison University (B.A., 1995, cum laude); University of Virginia School of Law (J.D., 2003, top 25%, Mortimer Caplin Public Service Award).

Law Practice Experience:  Private practice with Hoover Penrod PLC since 2008.  Supervising and Staff Attorney with Blue Ridge Legal Services from 2005 to 2008.  Legal Fellow with the Reporters Committee for Freedom of the Press from 2003 to 2005.  Adjunct professor with American University in 2005.  Law clerk with the Thomas Jefferson Center for the Protection of Free Expression, the Virginia Coalition for Open Government, and the American Civil Liberties Union of Virginia.  Restaurant general management from 1995 to 2000.

Professional Associations:  Member of the Virginia State Bar, Harrisonburg-Rockingham Bar Association, and Virginia Trial Lawyers Association.  Member of the Board of Directors of the Community Resource Center, Harrisonburg, Virginia.  Member of the Board of Directors of the Center for Marriage and Family Counseling, Harrisonburg, Virginia.  Campaign Account Manager for the United Way of Harrisonburg and Rockingham County.  President of the Northfield Court Section Five Homeowners’ Association.
